Milford Sound Attractions & Sight SeeingThe Glow Worm Cavern sure is a top attraction that many cruise tours take you to. Cruises combine sightseeing with interpretive talks and films that cover the history, geography and settlement of the area. Then of course you have the awesome cave experience. On arrival at the cave jetty a short walk along an elevated walkway takes you to Cavern House. Cavern House is a modern building with a small café and shop, an interpretive centre. The walk from Cavern House to the point where you enter the underground cavern by boat is awesome. You enter by ducking under the low slung roof then walking along a track beside roaring torrents of water. A small boat transports you through a striking section of cave with huge caverns, waterfalls and streams. The cave is a living cave with streams still active in eroding away the rock and expanding the cave system. It is from here that you enter the glowworm grotto. The boat glides in silence through total blackness, before you suddenly see thousands of tiny lights as if in a magical fairyland. It is awesome. |
